Dr. Thomas A. Lucas, Jr. graduated from Baylor University in 2002 as a Bachelor of Science, with concentrations in Biology and Chemistry. Dr. Lucas then attended the University of Houston College of Optometry, and graduated as a Doctor of Optometry in 2006.

Dr. Lucas is licensed by the Texas Optometry Board as an optometric glaucoma specialist, the highest level of optometric licensing in Texas. He is certified by the National Board of Examiners in Optometry and maintains competence through continuing education in all areas of eye research.

Dr. Lucas takes pride in the rigorous quality and professional standards at First Eye Care Killeen. Caring for his patients’ eye health and vision in his highest priority. He also has special professional interests including health care policy, advocacy, health information technology, emerging diagnostic and treatment options, ocular nutrition and eye disease prevention.

Dr. Lucas is a member of the American Optometric Association (AOA), the Texas Optometric Association (TOA) and the Heart of Texas Optometric Society (HTOS). He is past-president of HTOS and currently serves as president-elect of the TOA and Chair of the TOA Legislative Center. He also serves as a member of the AOA State Government Relations Center.

Dr. Lucas was honored in 2011 to be named the Texas Young Optometrist of the Year, and in 2014 was recognized by his colleagues as the Texas Optometrist of the Year.
